Transforming Local Government with Microsoft BizTalk Andy James – CTO Solidsoft Ltd
Transformational Government The successor to the egovernment programme Five year plan to transform government The initiative is ‘Enabled by Technology Emphasises the role of IT in the delivery of efficient and citizencentric public services
So what does this mean to a council? “Customer Access Channels”: the underpinning software, hardware and in house skills required to support and enable the transformation of customer facing processes and back office administrative processes. “Transactional Services”: the transformation of high volume, high cost customer facing and back office administrative processes supported and enabled by IT. “Service Transformation”: the transformation of service delivery to the public for example the personalisation of adults social services.
What are the challenges? The need to abstract back-end systems from the citizen whilst providing a view Automating mission-critical processes Enforcing process compliance and governance Enabling new channels and new access models Providing visibility across disparate heterogeneous systems Reducing risk in legacy modernisation
What is needed? The need to link Applications. The need to link Services. inside the firewall (EAI) outside the firewall (EDI/TPI) inside the firewall outside the firewall The need to implement Business Processes that are graphically defined (as opposed to embedded in code) The need to implement Business Rules without embedding them in code What is needed is Microsoft BizTalk Server!
