Participation of Large Carriers Release 4 Michael Richardson, UPS Customs and Border Protection Modernization New World, New Tools 32

UPS: How Large Carriers may Participate in ACE Must evaluate your individual business practices to determine best method of communicating to ACE Possible options are Direct EDI Link Combination of EDI and ACE Portal for submission Utilize Account Portal to register repetitive elements 33

UPS: How Large Carriers may Participate in ACE (cont.) Direct EDI Link All cargo, crewmember, equipment, conveyance data is collected and sent together to ACE: Cargo Conveyance Crew Equipment ACE ACE 34

UPS: How Large Carriers may Participate in ACE (cont.) Direct EDI Link Various groups within company provide their portion of the data: Conveyance Crew ACE ACE Equipment Cargo 35

UPS: How Large Carriers may Participate in ACE (cont.) Combination Direct EDI Link and ACE Portal Cargo EDI EDI ACE ACE Conveyance Crew Equipment ACE ACEPortal Portal 36

UPS: How Large Carriers may Participate in ACE (cont.) Maximize functionality of ACE Portal Populate repetitive elements in Account profile Only transmit on transactional basis one “key” element to associate to elements already residing in ACE Example: In ACE portal, populate all required elements for Trailers (equipment) you plan to cross border Transmit one of previously populated elements. One “key” element associates to residing data elements completing manifesting requirement Some Benefits: Transmit fewer items on a transactional basis Person entering data does not have to know all required elements or how to obtain them. In this case, they may only have to be trained to input “trailer number”. Remaining data elements will be populated behind the scenes 37
