They found Kyky’s heart in the last chapter – they’d been carrying it in the jar the whole time! They’ve also just arrived in Cairo, so the race is on to get to Luxor and get the jar back where it belongs!

Here are the answers I would give the questions set. I have written my answer in blue and my explanation of how I know think this is in green. 1. What does ‘swanky’ mean? Swanky means extremely fancy and luxurious. From my own knowledge of the word. 2. How far away is Valley of the Kings from the Winter Palace Hotel? The Valley of the Kings is a few miles away from the hotel, on the other side of the river. Page 2. 3. Find and copy one of the phrases Lil overheard people saying in the hotel lobby. Lil hears three things being said in the lobby: ‘ Carter’s got till the Americans start complaining ’, ‘ the grave-robbers took all the gold ’ and ‘ there’s something about that valley – gives me the heebie-jeebies ’. You need to have chosen only one of them, if you have done more then you would be incorrect and not read the question properly. 4. Why did Lil feel like collapsing? Lil felt like collapsing because she received a telegram telling her that her grandad was fading, suggesting he would die soon. She would feel sad and weak, as well as pressure to return the jar quickly. Page 5 and my inference of her feelings. 5. What is your first impression of Howard Carter? I think he appears to be strong and hardworking, as well as friendly for helping them find somewhere to stay. However, Lil was told by the man on the train and Grandad not to trust him, so this may be a cover up! My thoughts and remembering events from the story. 6. Where do they have to stay? Mrs Mendoza and the children have to stay on a boat, like a barge, which is called a dahabiyeh. It was very beautiful and splendid. Page 10-11.
