1st Offense: Student/Teacher Disruption of Instruction conference 2nd Offense: Parent Contact, and possible referral to administrator 3rd Offense: Team Conference with student, parent, teachers, and administrators. Referral to appropriate administrator.
Profanity Use Student/Parent/Teacher/Admin Intervention Student/Parent/Teacher(Team) Conference/Intervention Three days In-School Intervention with parent conference Three/five days suspension, possible long-term suspension/hearing and alternative placement for severe offenses.
Sexual Misconduct Offense: Counseling with student, 1 parent, administrator, police contacted, ISI and/or Suspension(based on severity of misconduct) st 2nd Offense: Three to ten days suspension with parent, administrator, police and counselor present for conference Serious offenses may result in immediate long-term Suspension and/or Alternative Placement.
Fighting 1st Offense: Three-Five days suspension, ticket from police officer transported to CIC 2nd Offense: Options: Long-term suspension, ticket, CIC, and/or Alternative Placement. CIC: Community Intervention Center
*BULLYING Referral to administrator and parent contacted Student/Parent Conference/ISI or Suspension(based on severity) Five days suspension/ticket from police officer Suspension and Long-term hearing scheduled. Note: *Bullying is a repeated long-term harassment—not an isolated incident
CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES Students will sign a contract if they want to bring a cell phone to school. Phones are allowed during breakfast and lunch ONLY. All phones, ear plugs, electronic devices, and/or any other wireless telecommunication devices MUST be turned OFF when students enter hallways and are in ALL other areas of the building.
Cell phone/communication device offenses: Phones in the hall or classroom: (1st) Phone is confiscated by teacher and picked up by student at the end of the hour from their teacher. Phones in the hall/class: (2nd)Phone is confiscated and turned in to admin. Administrator will conference with student and parent and return phone to student/parent. Phones that are confiscated the (3rd)time are turned in to an administrator, parent is notified to pick up phone from assigned principal.
Surveillance Cameras Surveillance cameras are located throughout the building for added security. Administrators have access to footage throughout the day for
John Marshall Dress Code Policy J 2018-2019 OHN MARSHALL DRESS CODE 2017-18 These guidelines apply to all students in District schools when they are at school or school-sponsored events: PANTS*, SLACKS, SKIRTS, SHORTS, CAPRIS AND DRESSES (any color of jeans/slacks, athletic shorts, joggers, etc.) Fastened at waist. Sagging or “low rise” clothing is inappropriate for school. Leggings may be worn under skirts, skorts, or dresses. Hemlines must be of modest length at or below the student’s fingertip with arm fully extended. SHIRTS** Selected from white and schooldesignated colors (All Colors/JM shirts/College/Thunder) Long or shortsleeved with or without collars as designated by school. (No Vulgar/Gangrelated/Drugs or Alcohol references on any clothing items) No tank tops and buttoned or zipped appropriately. SHOES Shoes are required at all times on school property and school buses. Shoelaces must be tied. Flip-flops, slides, beach or pool shoes, and house shoes are not acceptable for school. *Pants with holes above the knee must have tights or leggings worn underneath. OUTERWEAR Any color hoodie, sweater, sweatshirt, letterman’s jacket, club/team jacket can be worn in the classroom (no lewd, suggestive, alcohol/drug pictures or ads allowed on any clothing items) Large coats may not be worn inside the building during school unless the principal makes an exception if the school is unusually cold, but shall be worn to school and placed in the student’s locker or hung in the student’s classroom or another location designated by the Principal. Hoods are not to be worn in the building at any time. HATS, JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES Caps, hats, or head coverings including scarves, bandanas, and sweatbands are not worn in school building. Exceptions include a head covering associated with student’s religious beliefs, for medical reasons, or as approved by school administration for a special school activity (JM Team hats, visors) Jewelry and accessories which pose a safety concern for the student or others are prohibited. Student belts should be worn in the belt loops. (No vulgar/gang-related drug or alcohol pictures or references can be worn on any accessories, per OKCPS dress code.
UNIFORM ADDITION *All JM T-shirts including all athletic, club, event and Finance Academy shirts are acceptable as daily uniform attire. Remember--If you wear a sweater/jacket during the day, you must have a uniform shirt underneath.

SCANNING All students are required to go through the security scanner at the southeast gym entrance door until 7:25 a.m. Students are allowed to enter the front door scanners at 7:30 a.m. NO EXCEPTIONS *After walking-through scanners, students will proceed to cafeteria or commons areas to await dismissal to classrooms at 7:25.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CAFETERIA RULES When entering the cafeteria for lunch, be seated at a table on the 7th grade side. Once seated, Administrator will release either 7th or 8th to line up first, then the other grade will follow afterwards. Once lunch items are received, sit at your chosen table to eat/converse using your “classy restaurant voice.” After finishing your lunch, throw away all of your trash and either return to your chosen table or proceed to the courtyard(based on Admin. instructions). LUNCH BOUNDARIES No food items are to be delivered Please clean up after yourself No food items outside of the cafeteria(gym/courtyard) No throwing food in the cafeteria or elsewhere in the building—this can result in suspension. No horse-playing/inappropriate behavior in cafeteria/gym/courtyard Do not leave the cafeteria without permission from an administrator. In case of an emergency, see the administrator or adult authority on duty for further instructions. Adults on Duty: Admin., Counselor, Officer
Lunch and Learn or Detention (Located in MS Students are designated referred to Classroom) Lunch and Learn or Lunch Detention by their teacher or administrator--based on academics and/or behavior Note: Student will be given a Lunch and Learn slip or Detention slip to advance to the front of the lunch line, then proceed to their designated classroom.
Attendance Policy Eleven (11) unexcused absences during the semester may result in low grades and gaps in learning. Students may be ticketed for skipping class, even if you are in the building. For excused absences, students will have up to 5 days (per district policy.) to make-up missing assignments. After the 5 day period, the student will receive a permanent zero in the grade book if work has not been completed. For unexcused absences, a student will have 3 days to turn in late work, with a 15% penalty each day toward the grade of that assignment.
Tardy Policy You are tardy after the tardy bell rings and you are not in your seat in your classroom. If you are 15 or more minutes late, it is counted as an absence and eventually your parent will be notified by the truancy officer if continued. 1st/2nd tardy Warning/Conference 3rd tardy Parent contact/conference 4th/5th tardy Parent contact/Lunch detention/ISI 6th tardy Referral to Administrator
Truancy A student is considered truant when absent from the classroom without the knowledge of either the school or parent. If a student is absent from school four or more days or partial days within a four week period-without a valid excuse for eleven (11) or more days during a semester--the attendance officer will inform the parents that they are not in compliance with the law and will notify the district attorney for Oklahoma County. A ticket may be issued by Officer. Parents can be fined for each day their child is truant from school.
Skipping Class 1st Offense: Referral to administrator, ISI assigned, and parent contacted 2nd Offense: Three days in-school suspension (ISI), parent conference 3rd Offense: Five days in-school suspension (ISI), parent conference *Student and Parent may be fined by Court for Truancy
School Activities A maximum of 10 days of activity absences--per semester from any one class-- are permitted during a school year.
Educational Field Trips do not count towards the 10 absences *See attendance clerk upon return from excused absence.
Buses Riding a bus is not a right and can be taken away if behavior is inappropriate. Be aware that buses are outfitted with day and night vision video/audio cameras for additional safety purposes.
Closed Campus All students are required to remain on campus throughout the entire school day. Only a parent/guardian on enrollment data can check-out students. Important: Parents, if your contact number/name changes during the school year, please visit the registrar’s office to update your information.
Tobacco/Drug Free School DON’T POSSESS DON’T USE DON’T BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE DON’T DISTRIBUTE Maximum consequences will be enforced for students under the influence or in possession/possession with intent to distribute.

TINKER FEDERAL CREDIT UNION John Marshall has a bank in the school!! Yes, an actual bank and it functions as such. It’s purpose is to train students for real-world bank or credit union teller jobs. HS students enrolled in the Finance Academy classes are eligible to work in the bank. MS students use the bank to get change at lunch time.
Parent Visitation Parents are welcome in our school, however, they must report to the main office and request to have their child sent to the office. Appointments must be made to speak with teachers during the school day. A 24-hour notice must be given to teacher/administrator if a parent wants to visit(shadow) their student.
