RESPIRATORY INFORMATION SESSION Indianapolis

COURSES REQUIRED TO APPLY APHY 101 APHY 102 ENGL 111 MATH 123 or higher These courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester to be considered for the Fall start date

Selection Process Based on the 4 required courses, points are given for the grade received. Students that took a course more than 1x, will receive an average of all the attempts. Example: 2018 you took ENGL 111 and received a D (5 pts) and retook it in 2019 and received a B (15 pts). 5 15 20 / 2 10 pts- awarded for ENGL 111. A 20 pts B 15 pts C 10 pts D 5 pts Students that took CHEM 101/111 or BIOL 201/211 and received a C or , will receive an additional 5 pts as bonus

Selection Process The 4 courses, plus bonus pts for Microbiology and/or Chemistry, and the cumulative GPA is added together to determine who gets into the program. Students that have a current EMT, Paramedic, and/or nursing license, may submit a copy of their license with application. If there is a tie, students with any of the credentials above will receive 0.5 pts to their scores. Currently our program can accept up to 40 students. Students will be notified by June 15th by email if they are accepted or not into the program.

How to Apply Applications will need to be emailed to Charity Bowling [email protected] Application consist of: Application Form (must be legible) Unofficial copy of your transcripts If you have classes that are outside of Ivy Tech, you will need to make sure an official copy has been sent for review by the registrar’s office, but also an unofficial copy sent with your application to show any courses that would go towards the degree. EMT, Paramedics, and/or nursing individuals that hold a current license to practice, a copy of their active license

How to Apply Applications must be emailed by11:59 p.m. May 15, 2020 Any applications received after that date/time, will not be considered Students will be advised via email and/or a ZOOM information session. Individuals accepted into the program will have a deadline to accept the offer to be part of the class that starts August 2020. Anyone that does not respond, will lose their spot and the next person eligible on the list of applicants will be moved into their spot. A mandatory orientation currently is scheduled in July 2020. This is where students will meet their classmates, register for classes, and receive information on health screens and background checks.

Other Important Information Our program is the largest respiratory program in the state, we run classes Monday thru Thursday 8 am to 9 pm Students may be required to take an evening track Our program is organized to make students successful by the way it’s structured and the amount of time the faculty spends helping students. The program is lecture, lab, and then a clinical component. Clinical days vary and are 12-1/2 hour shifts twice a week beginning in the spring semester. Students may have day, weekend day, or weekend night clinical times. Students may have to drive for their clinical site; we cover all of Indianapolis, surrounding counties, Anderson, Muncie, and even Centerville. Students DO NOT get to pick their clinical sites, so please don’t ask!

Other Important Information The job market is tremendous for Respiratory Therapists and we have hospitals from Illinois, Ohio, and of course Indiana, recruiting our students. Our pass rates on our National Exams is above the national average. Students that complete are eligible to take their national exams and become a registered therapist.
