LSCS Nursing Programs Certified Nursing Assistant (continuing education department) The following 3 programs will be covered in this information session: Vocational Nursing Associate Degree Nursing (Basic Track) LVN to RN Transition Program Paramedic to RN Transition Program RN to BSN Program (separate information sessions available)

Getting Started at Lone Star College Apply to the College online or in the C Building, 1st Floor (Student Services) Unless you have already completed college Math and English classes with a “C or better” or provided Lone Star with placement information (recent test scores) in Reading, Writing, and Math, you may need to schedule to take the TSI Assessment (see Admissions)

Meet Math Requirement for Nursing at LSCS Both LVN & RN completion of MATH 0310 or higher math course with a C or better or placement above that level on an approved placement test within the past 5 years.

VERY IMPORTANT POLICY: All nursing applicants should be aware of current immunization policy (see handout). Proof of a positive Hep B titer and the 3 shots administered is due at the time of application. The series takes up to 6 months to complete. Titers cannot be drawn until SIX weeks after the last immunization. NOTE: quantitative titers are now required for hepatitis B, MMR (each measles, mumps, and rubella), and varicella. Students with negative quantitative titers should contact the Nursing Director at the campus to which they are applying for direction in handling the negative test result.

LVN Program Admission Criteria 1. High School Graduate or GED Minimum HS (within 3 years) or college cum. GPA of 2.0; Minimum LSCS GPA of 2.0. Be considered “at college level” in Math, Reading, and Writing (for Math Math 0310 or higher completed with grade of C or better OR recent test scores placing above that level; for English eligible to enroll in ENGL 1301 by placement without a linked NCBO) 2. 3.

LVN Program LVN Applicants will need to have completed an Anatomy & Physiology Prerequisite Course prior to the application deadline. This requirement can be met by having a C or better in the past 5 years in one of the following: BIOL 2404 OR BIOL 2401 & BIOL 2402 ( both classes completed; higher grade used on scoresheet)

LVN Program Applicants will be ranked according to: 1. GPA of BIOL 2404 or 2401/2402 HESI scores 2.

Associate Degree Nursing Program (Basic Track) Complete MATH 0310 with a C or better (or test above that level of MATH on approved test less than 5 years ago) 2 courses - absolute prerequisites (must be completed and reflected in your My Lonestar course history prior to the application deadline): 1.BIOL 2401 – less than 5 years old 2.ENGL 1301 -- gpa of these 2 courses must be 2.7 or higher to be eligible to apply

Transition Program Meet the “College-level” placement Requirements 3 Absolute Prerequisites (2.7 min gpa required when averaging these 3 classes) – must be completed and listed in Course History of your My Lonestar account prior to application deadline: BIOL 2401 (less than 5 years old) ENGL 1301 RNSG 1301(less than 5 years old)

Additional Notes All classes (in order to count in selection criteria or ranking) must be completed prior to the application deadline (not currently in progress). All 3 nursing programs require that you take the HESI Pre-Entrance Test. These scores are used in the ranking of applicants. HESI sections required to take : Math, Anatomy & Physiology, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Vocabulary & General Knowledge, and Critical Thinking.

Additional Notes HESI must be taken by the HESI Deadline posted on the website. This HESI Deadline is usually 1-2 weeks prior to the application deadline. HESI may be taken once every 61 days if student desires (system-wide). If a student chooses to retest, they must do so on all 6 sections of the HESI. If you choose to retest, your most recent score will be used for your application score (all sections). HESI scores must not be over 1 year old by the date you submit your application in order to be used.

Additional Notes Nursing programs require a pre-admission drug screening. The students will be responsible for the cost of the test. Additional Notes Verification of social security numbers prior to clinical placement. English proficiency requirement for those that did not attend high school in the U.S. (see handout). Health Insurance is required for students in our nursing programs.

Additional Notes Candidates for Texas nursing licensure must do electronic fingerprinting via Texas Board of Nursing(BON) approved facility. This fingerprinting will go to the BON for FBI background check. Individuals with histories of felony convictions, mental illness and/or chemical dependency will be considered on an individual basis after review by the Texas BON.
