Comprehension questions for Chapter 5 How much have you understood? Remember to refer back to the text to find the answers to these questions. You can write your answers on any piece of paper at home, or discuss them with someone but your answers must be in full sentences. My answers are on the next slide. 1. What did Lil lie to her dad about and why? 2. How does Lil manage to leave the house after dinner? 3. Is Grandad a fussy eater? How do you know? 4. What does it mean if you ask someone to never darken your door again? 5. What was peculiar about there being an object in the Canopic jar? 6. What does Lysandra call Tutankhamun? 7. What is Lysandra’s gift? 8. Why does Tutankhamun decide to hold a feast?

Here are the answers I would give the questions set. I have written my answer in blue and my explanation of how I know think this is in green. 1. What did Lil lie to her dad about and why? Lil lied to her dad about her spelling test, telling him that it was easier than the last one, because she didn’t want him to know that she had missed school. Page 1 and inference, understanding Lil’s actions. 2. How does Lil manage to leave the house after dinner? Lil manages to leave the house by offering to go and feed Nefertiti, her Grandad’s cat. Pages 3 - 4. 3. Is Grandad a fussy eater? How do you know? Grandad isn’t a fussy eater, because Lil says it would take something really shocking to put him off his food when she finds the half-eaten corned-beef sandwich. Page 6. 4. What does it mean if you ask someone to ‘never darken your door again’? If you ask someone to ‘never darken your door again’ it means that you don’t want to see that person again and you don’t want them to visit you. I was able to infer this from the writing on page 7 and the words of the phrase. 5. What was peculiar about there being an object in the Canopic jar? It was strange that Dr. Hanawati found an object in the jar because they had never noticed there being anything inside before. Page 8. 6. What does Lysandra call Tutankhamun? Lysandra called Tutankhamun ‘KyKy’. Page 14. 7. What is Lysandra’s power? Lysandra is able to read dreams, meaning that she can understand what someone’s dreams mean. Page 15. 8. Why does Tutankhamun decide to hold a feast? Tutankhamun decides to hold a feast to try to please Amun, the god of the sun. It is believed that he was upset by Tutankhamun’s father, and that is why the sun is not shining and it is so cold. Page 20 and 21.
