Western Civ/ OWC; World History & Global Awareness Social Science: If the course meets the Natural Science outcomes, it might count as Natural Science KA From Deb Moeckel - Basic Communication - can still have two separate courses one for Writing and one for Oral. However, if want to have ONE course satisfy, must have both components.

Summary of Info of Gen Ed Revision (from Provost & Board President’s presentations) Much Discussion about Implementation Timeline Was the timeline developed with recognition of the timeline for internal campus policies for program and course revisions? It is very hard to do what needs to be done. The Implementation timeline will not change. We will do all we can to help make that happen. All program reviewers are ready and able to help with this. I think we have run out of patience from the Board, and this has to go forward. There's also a good number of categories that have not changed significantly, so it won't be quite as big a job as we thought. Was there a recognition of the different considerations for CC vs 4-yrs in Gen Ed revisions? There was a great deal of discussion about the disconnect between the Framework and the recommendations in the Green Paper Robust conversations. In such a broad system, we cannot make everyone happy. We must find a balance to keep students happy while addressing accreditation requirements. There was an apparent inconsistency between how the Provost’s office and the Board of Trustees (in the person of Board Chair) are viewing the firmness of the Fall 2023 deadline.

New LMS: Kim Scalzo - Interim Executive Director, Academic Technologies and Information Services, SUNY Current State of SUNY Digital Learning Environments (DLE): Decentralized, Distributed environment: Different experience, hosting, & support at each campus Blackboard Campuses: Some campuses use Original Experience, some use Blackboard Ultra. These look and function very differently. An RFP was required to search for new contract. D2L was approved 9/24/21 Goal: Unified Digital Learning Environment Develop some consistency in the learning environment for faculty & students across system. Common LMS application: Central architecture w/ common data structures; common data integration Common templates & Common set of online tools integrated with the LMS

Johanna Duncan-Poitier, Senior Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline Stay near, Go Far Enrollment Campaign During the pandemic CC Presidents helped to create this. https://www.suny.edu/communitycollege/ Community College Got Me Here Strong Start to Finish Math pathways, Devevelopmental (co req) English, Guided Pathways & Multiple Measures Placement Significant gains in completion rates for students who completed Gateway math and English courses in their first year 16% increase in completion rates for undergrad first time & transfer students from 2017-18 to 201920 89% increase First term retention rate of students who competed math and and english gateway courses over the last 3 years compared to those who did not. Community College Councils No current plan to return to discussions of these. Will be increasing advocacy for sustainable funding.

Casey Crabill, NYCCAP Governor Hochul supportive of high education, especially CCs Presidents all share reopening challenges and enrollment concerns Advocacy strategies for the upcoming budget: Shifting message away from “Funding Floor” to “Predictable Funding” & “Smart Planning” Attempting to get into the Executive Budget and avoid the Legislative scramble Governor seems supportive - goal of providing extra support for workforce development students & additional expectations Messaging should be of Equity - we WANT to meet expectations but need smart planning with predictable funding Conversations have begun to develop models for an Equity Scorecard Ways to track and summarize our work in achieving equitable outcomes for students. These conversations are very much in the idea stage

Casey Crabill, NYCCAP Question: Are there conversations to put the Funding floor into law? Answer: Yes, and these conversations are careful to move the approach rather than a dollar figure/or percentage. Seems to be receptivity for formula changes in statue. Question: Is there a document which tracks trends on the distribution of funding across campuses? Answer: Yes, but every campus is different - average ratios are around 33% split but vary dramatically. CFOs have this information. Question: Are there Conversations to renew the work of the Community College Councils? Answer: These conversations haven’t yet reached the President’s level, but due to the enrollment declines, it seems likely to resurface. Question: Is there discussion of combining online sections across campuses or coordinating these courses? Answer: We must be very careful to help others to understand that this looks easy from the outside, but is very challenging to accomplish. We need to look very closely at data from student outcomes in remote instruction.

Recent estimates are 10,000 but not certain. Plan to build IT solution system-wide that students can use to validate their status regardless of whether they use military funding sources. Step 2 - Designated Veterans representative on every campus

Chairperson Merryl Tisch, SUNY Board of Trustees New General Education Framework and Implementation timeline: ”What is the rush?” Chairperson Merryl Tisch believes the “goal of the new general education framework is to create a nationally recognized system and to keep students in the system.” With respect to the Fall 2023 deadline, she said “arbitrary deadlines discourage successful implementation,” and “ we want to the implementation to be correct and not rushed.” Seamless transfer: “We must make sure seamless transfer remains intact.” Transfer students: Chairperson Tisch acknowledges that these students remain woefully undocumented as successful students. “We must count students who transfer” out of our community colleges.

SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras Referenced competition from online education enterprises. Spoke in favor of liberal arts education, referenced Jan 6: We need well-rounded people to understand what it means to a citizen of our country and/or be part of our society. Says he will advocate with Governor and Legislature re: funding floor, changes to FTE model, chargebacks, access to workforce development funds, financial aid model. Spoke in favor of collaboration between nearby community colleges. SUNY for All could provide help in making these connections.
