STATUS OF EMC IN INDIA Standards followed IEC / CISPR Not mandatory However, consumers like Defense /Telecom demand EMC compliance Facilities for commercial testing exist at 8 Centres operated by Govt. in Major Cities. FCC (Federal Communications Commission, USA) listed sites also available An initiative taken by Department of Information Technology by launching voluntary certification scheme. Centres offer Training, Facilities for Product Design & Development, Testing for international compliance and certification
INDIA’S APPROACH Expansion of labs and testing infrastructure Up-gradation of skills of test and certification engineers Legislative Measures planned Activate consumer forums by educating them about benefits of EMC/EMI Compliance
POSSIBLE APPROACHES Harmonization of EMC standards at global level (Like US requires mainly emission control whereas EU requires Immunity control as well) Evolution of mutually acceptable test & certification system Mutual Recognition scheme to be broad based to cover parameters like factory inspection, if made mandatory by different countries
