College Credit Plus College Credit Plus State program available to high school students in Ohio for courses that allow students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time at no cost to the student. Available to all 7th-12th grade students who meet criteria Available on all public college campus’s including Wayne College, U of Akron (Akron), Kent Stark, Stark State Formally known as Post-Secondary or Dual Credit

College Credit Plus Options Students sign up for college courses, the grade they receive in the course is on the students permanent high school transcript and permanent college transcript. Grades of ‘C’ or higher may then be transferred to other colleges and universities through the Ohio Transfer Module. Transfer credit is not guaranteed to private or out of state schools but is generally accepted. Students can take these courses at a partner college or university or on the Chippewa High School campus.

Advanced Placement (AP) In this form the students participate in national curriculum approved by the College Board Students receive credit based on their test scores and the school they choose to attend Testing is done in May, students receive their scores over the summer. Credit can be given for a score over 3 on a 1-5 scale. Current Requirements for admittance into CCP programs The University of Akron and Wayne College Preferred Eligibility Requirements: 3.00 cumulative GPA AND 21 ACT composite or 990 SAT Math and Critical Reading combined score The Office of Admissions will evaluate the cumulative GPA and ACT or SAT scores to determine college readiness for applicants not meeting the preferred requirements AND A minimum ACT English score of 18 or SAT Critical Reading score of 430 is required for all applicants (No exceptions) *Eligibility requirements are subject to change

Current Requirements for admittance into CCP programs Admission Standards at Kent State Stark Students seeking admission into the College Credit Plus program must demonstrate college readiness by meeting Kent State’s remediation-free standards. Kent State University at Stark determines college readiness by using ACT or SAT scores. Needed ACT scores: ACT English 18; ACT Reading 20 Students who wish to take courses in mathematics or take courses that have a mathematics prerequisite will also be required to complete the university’s ALEKS math placement assessment to determine college readiness in

ACT Test Dates Test Date Registration Deadline December 10, 2016 November 4, 2016 (late 11/20) February 11, 2017 January 13, 2017 You must take the ACT by February to have test results back in time to qualify for COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS Programs for the following school year.

Procedure for College Credit Plus 1. Come to CCP meeting 2. Take ACT by FEBUARY 3. Check student eligibility with college requirements 4. Schedule your CHS courses (Jan-Mar) 5. Meet with CHS counselor to plan 6. Complete application packet from CHS guidance department, including all CCP enrollment forms and meet deadlines. 7. Receive admission letter from College(s) and bring copy to Guidance 8. Attend College orientation if necessary 9. Meet with CHS Counselor and then College advisor to schedule courses. 10. Bring a copy of your schedule to the CHS Counselor ASAP

How credits work College classes are worth a certain number of hours each, based on how long and how often they meet. These hours are translated back to high school credits based on the following formula: A semester college course of 3 or more credits counts as a one-year high school class. 3 college credit hour course 1 High school credits * All AP and CCP courses are on an advanced weight 5.0 GPA scale.

Rules and other info Students may take up to 30 College Credits a year or the equivalent between College courses and high school courses. No more than 120 credit hours can be earned while in school. A student must take a minimum of a full time high school student in order to maintain eligibility- 5 credits a year. Students do not pay for any books, fees or tuition in the College Credit Plus program. Parking fees are the responsibility of the student. Students must submit an “Intent to Participate Form” to the guidance office by April 1st

Grades Students must receive an ‘in- progress’ grade from their College Professor at the 9 week mark in order to have a report card grade 1st quarter. After graduation from high school, STUDENTS need to transfer their college credits to another college or university. STUDENTS must contact the college office to send official transcripts. Chippewa High School Counselors cannot send these for students. We can only send high school credit transcripts.

Deciding to participate in CCP here at CHS or on a campus Do you qualify? Will this help your future plans? Are you independent and self motivated to meet deadlines and follow directions? Are you ready for college level work and the extra time and commitment it will take? Are you self-disciplined and able to ask for help when needed? Professors expect you to self-advocate. Do you have transportation and able to drive in all weather types? Will this affect your ability to participate in extra-curricular activities such as Band, sports and clubs? Will you have the time for all your commitments? If you are part time at the college and part time at the high school can you get the schedule you need? Some high school courses are only offered one period a day and you may not be able to schedule college courses until summer. Will you be able to keep your GPA where you want it?
