Dates and Other Important Information 2021 DNP application deadline: January 15, 2021 by 11:59 pm (PST) No GRE required Offer notifications usually go out by the end of March and no later then April 15 of the academic year you are applying to

Eligibility Checklist A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the last 90 graded college/university quarter credits or equivalent credits completed BSN from a CCNE or NLN accredited program by the time you start your program Proof of English language proficiency, if your native language in not English, regardless of citizenship. Eligibility Checklist continued 3 quarter-credit (or equivalent) course in descriptive and inferential statistics with a minimum grade of 2.0 within in the last 5 years– this must be completed before program start.

How to apply Applying to the UW DNP program is completely online You will complete and upload all components of the application via the UW Graduate School website. All DNP applicants will be charged an 85.00 application fee It is HIGHLY recommended that you save a copy of each PDF document for your own records. You will be unable to access them once you have submitted your online application

General Application Tips Communicate that you understand what the DNP is about vs PhD or MSN What has informed your track choice Communicate that you understand and are prepared to handle the academic rigor of graduate study The essay, letters of recommendation, and resume should reinforce one another.

Resume Organize your resume the exact way it is listed in the instructions The Admissions Committee looks for evidence of leadership, independent decision-making skills, and responsibilities Be descriptive, give the Admission Committee/Faculty context

Resume continue Professional and/or community activities Unique experiences Avoid lengthy narratives Proofread, no more than three pages in 11-point Arial/Calibri font, 1 inch margins Proofread!!!! Follow the tips on the directions!

Resume continued – Employment history (list jobs not included in clinical experience) – Professional and community activities (name of agency or group, dates, experience) – Certifications and licenses – Awards, honors or merit scholarships (name of award, year awarded, agency) – Languages you speak in addition to English – Any unique experience you think is relevant (including, but not limited to, presentations, publications, leadership in student organizations, research experience, advocacy activities).

Letter of Recommendation Three letters of recommendation are required – One academic recommendation, one clinical recommendation, and the third can be either academic or clinical recommendation Pro Tip: Meet with the individuals who are writing your letters of recommendation – Talk about your goals, what program you are applying to, and what you want your letter or recommendation to reflect – Individuals will be sent an email to fill out the form, tell them that it may go to their junk/spam inbox

Letter of Recommendation continue Must be within five years of application One letter should be completed by someone who has supervised you during your handson healthcare experience and can speak to your future ability to function in your chosen role (DNP). Pro Tip: Get a letter from an individual who has an advanced practice degree in the track you are pursuing. – For example if you are applying to the FNP track try to get a letter from a practicing FNP you know

ADMISSIONS ESSAYS: Overview Compose and save your admissions essay responses as a PDF, Word, or RTF document. Address each essay question separately. Responses for each part should be no more than two double-spaced pages in 11-point Arial or Calibri font and 1" margins. All essays should be solely your work without any outside help

Make sure that you clearly articulate that you understand the role you are applying to.

ESSAY #2: BACKGROUND AND CAREER GOALS Describe significant experiences that have contributed to your interest in pursuing a clinical doctorate (the DNP degree) at the University of Washington (UW). Clearly specify outcomes you wish to gain from graduate/doctoral study above and beyond preparation for a specific role discussed in Essay #1. – clinical nurse specialist, nurse-midwife, nurse practitioner, population health nurse

ESSAY #2: BACKGROUND AND CAREER GOALS continued Discuss why doctoral study at the UW is the right place to facilitate your career goals Why is now the right time for you professionally and personally to make the commitment of time, energy, and resources that graduate school requires. For this essay, you will review the DNP Essentials and the UW DNP Program Goals.

ESSAY #3: HEALTH EQUITY The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted health inequities that have been occurring in the United States and worldwide. We have heard the phrase "we're all in this together" since this pandemic started. However, Dr. Bowleg argues that "we are not all in this together" (2020, p. 917, American Journal of Public Health) on COVID-19. Dr. Grant, President of the American Nurses Association, states that inequities in our country are "the most important moral challenge of the 21st century" (ANA 2020 New Releases).

ESSAY #3: HEALTH EQUITY continued What are your thoughts about these perspectives? What do you view as your role and responsibilities as a health care provider and as a member of the nursing profession in addressing health inequities? Support your position and perspectives with trusted resources.

Online Timed Essays No recorded interview All DNP applicants who submit a complete application will receive a link to complete a timed online essay following the deadline. You will receive more information (email) prior to receiving the essay link Two essay questions – 2 minute prep-time and 5 minute response time for each essay You must complete the online essay for your application to be considered for admission.
