What Does Rural Look Like?

Goals of the ANEW Grant: 2017-2023 Support Advanced Practice Nursing Education in rural New York State and Northeastern PA. Prepare FNP and Adult Gerontology NP to: Be experts caring for rural and underserved populations Be prepared to provide care using telehealth Support NP Preceptors Annual Preceptor Appreciation Day Telehealth Development IPAD to each preceptor

Eligibility RN in NYS or PA with active unencumbered nursing license Completed application for the FNP or Adult Gerontology Program Currently living in a rural area Willing to complete the program full time in two years Willing to complete all clinical hours in a rural setting which we assign Must be interested in working in either rural, underserved or primary care settings upon graduation

Curriculum Two of three electives which will pertain to rural sociology and telehealth will be required N.640: Health Disparities Across Populations N.621: The Rural Imperative: Theoretical Frameworks N.571: Introduction to Telehealth Ability to attend rural clinical experiences 660 supervised clinical hours Participate in telehealth activities as prescribed by the principle investigator

Masters FNP Program Full Time Two Years

Adult Gerontology Primary Care Program May select from Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Role Care for individuals ages 16 to geriatrics 48 credit program; Full Time-2 years, Part time-3 years Fall and Spring entry terms 660 hours of direct patient care Often times work in an adult population; internal medicine, gerontology office, primary care office, extended care or nursing home. Full Scope providers with full prescriptive authority Clinical Nurse Specialist-Protected title in New York State Do not have prescriptive authority
