Career and College Promise Elizabeth Turner Howard Career and College Promise Liaison James Sprunt Community College

Career and College Promise in Duplin County (CCP) College Transfer Pathways (CTP) and Career and Technical Education Pathways (CTE). 22 Pathways (5 CTP / 18 CTE). Courses offered on JSCC campus, online, and via ITV. TUITION FREE and textbooks are currently paid for by the county.

College Transfer Pathway Requirements High school junior or senior. Unweighted GPA of 2.8 or higher (cannot round GPAs). College readiness placement scores (appropriate scores do not have to come from one individual test – they can be from several approved tests as long as the student has the appropriate score in each area of Reading, English, and Math).

College Transfer Pathway Requirements High school freshmen or sophomore. Be identified as gifted by the local AIG plan in English/reading and math; or Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an approved assessment; (See Attachment A for college readiness scores); and Receive recommendation verifying the student has maturity to enroll from high school principal or equivalent administrator; and receive recommendation of AIG Coordinator (if one is employed by the district); and Receive approval of college president or the college’s chief student development administrator or the college’s chief academic officer; and Receive written consent of the student’s parent/guardian; and Receive academic advising prior to enrollment in the program.

College Transfer Pathways Leading towards an Associate in Science. 35 – 43 credit hours Leading towards an Associate in Arts. 32 - 41 credit hours Leading towards Associate Degree Nursing. 24 credit hours *Students who complete the program can continue to take courses and earn credits towards completion of the degree.

Career & Technical Education Pathway Requirements High school junior or senior. Weighted GPA of 2.8 or higher (cannot round GPAs) OR high school principal’s recommendation.

Career & Technical Education Pathway Requirements To be eligible for enrollment, a high school student must meet one of the following criteria: Be a high school freshman or sophomore, and i. Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee (assessment scores should be considered) and rationale for recommendation; and Have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and Passed Math I with a grade of C or better; and iv. Scored a 3, 4, or 5 on the End of Course assessment (EOC) for Math I; and Scored a 3, 4, or 5 on the 8th grade End of Grade ELA assessment.

You may enroll in a College Transfer Pathway and a Career and Technical Education Pathway. OR You may enroll in two Career and Technical Education Pathways. *A provisional status student may only apply for ONE pathway until provisional status requirements are satisfied.

Requirements To Remain In Program Continue to make progress toward high school graduation. Maintain a 2.0 GPA in college. Take courses in selected pathway only. *A student who falls below a 2.0 GPA after completing two college courses will be subject to the college’s policy for satisfactory academic progress

Scholarship Opportunity James Sprunt Presidential Scholarship Requirements Complete a JSCC Application in Associate or Diploma Programs. Complete a FAFSA and Submit to JSCC. Graduate from High School with at least a 3.0 Unweighted GPA. Complete Three or More JSCC Career & College Promise Classes with a ‘C’ or Better Grade. Must Be a United States Citizen. Must Be a Duplin County Resident. Maintaining Scholarship Requirements Remain in Good Academic Standing at JSCC (2.0 or Higher Cumulative GPA). Maintain Completion Rate of 67% or Higher While a Student at JSCC. Complete FAFSA Each Year. Scholarship Available for Maximum of 2 Consecutive Academic Years (4 semesters) for Traditional Students; 1 year (2 semesters) for Early College Students. Must Complete at least 10 hours of Documented Volunteer Service Each Semester. Scholarship Ends Once Associate Degree is Completed.
