What is “Flipped Learning”? Two Key Principles Use both a face-to-face and an online portion to deliver instruction, assessment and collaboration Use the face-to-face time to influence what is delivered in the online portion, and vice-versa

Challenges for Schools Finding time in busy schedules Finding presenters to come in and training Training costs presenter/materials How to provide training for those that miss training Keeping track of attendance/completion Customizing information to fit your district/building action plans New situations need a quick response
Considerations for Training/Resources Needs to be evidence based Include Prevention, Postvention & ACEs Meet time requirement (1 hour) Completion documentation and record keeping Costs (materials, time, presenter fees) Customization options Access for all staff Multi-year planning
AEA Training System Features Meets the requirements for prevention and postvention training and has been vetted by the Iowa Department of Education as well as national experts Can be assigned to staff and most staff already have an account in the system Districts can customize the “district page” in the system with contacts and links Interactive activities and scenarios Planned yearly updates to refresh content and look Available at no cost for staff/districts and can be accessed anywhere with internet access at any time
Training Customization District specific information should include: Links to your district suicide response or crisis plans Contacts (Name, Email, Phone) for referrals Process for referring a student Local resources for students and families Any specific resource or link that staff need to have Customization and design supports

Follow-up and Building on Initial Training Communication Plan discussions Staff, Parents, and Students Building into times when you are meeting instead of a stand alone meeting. Create a multi year PD plan for SEMHB. Think about the different options to help the content to stay fresh. Flipped Learning Activities Phone App Activity Role-playing gatekeeper responses Suicide Prevention Plan Scavenger hunt Reading activities with articles on suicide PLC discussion on upcoming curriculum topics that deal with Mental Health (example Romeo & Juliet, etc.) Include mental health as part of your district wellness activities
Discussion What might be some ways you could follow up with staff? More ideas to come. Click this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U0zYKvaRWNFnuhSr8A50dJU0H0Oh ri1R mh1qqkCvbM/edit?usp sharing
Once a year is not enough . We need to keep the conversation going throughout the year.
