1 Using Technology to Submit Your Math Assignments in Blackboard Directions for iPhone Users
2 Completing Math Assignments Remotely 1. You will request an assignment. 2. Your instructor will release the assignment to you in Blackboard. 3. You will open the assignment in Blackboard. 4. You will complete the problems by writing your work on a printout of the assignment (or on your own paper). 5. You will show work for each problem, or write an explanation of how you got your answer. No work no credit! 6. You will submit your completed assignment in Blackboard so that your instructor can grade your work. You must submit your work as a single pdf computer file. This PowerPoint will show you how to do that. IMPORTANT Keep the assignment window open in Blackboard while you work on the assignment. This is necessary in order to submit your work when you are finished.
Submitting Your Completed Assignment Remotely This PowerPoint presentation shows iPhone users how to attach images of all your assignment work pages as a single pdf computer file in Blackboard. Here is an overview of the process: 1. Use the iPhone scanner feature in the Notes app to scan all your completed assignment pages as one pdf file. 2. Send the pdf file to your email account. 3. Open your email, and save the pdf file on your computer. 4. Attach the pdf file to your Graded Assignment in Blackboard. 5. Submit the assignment in Blackboard. The rest of this PowerPoint shows the process one step at a time. 3
4 Open the Notes app on your iPhone. The icon looks like a small yellow notepad.
5 Create a new note by tapping the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
6 Tap the Camera icon above the keyboard. The icon might be a , depending on what iPhone you have.
7 Tap Scan Documents.
8 Position your phone over page 1 of your completed assignment as if you are taking a photo. Usually the app scans the image automatically. If it doesn’t, tap the white circular button.
9 You will see the scanned image on a screen similar to the one shown here. If you want, you can drag the corner circles to crop the image. When you are satisfied with the image, tap Keep Scan. If you want to redo the scan, tap Retake.
10 The message “Ready for next scan” appears at the bottom of the screen. Continue to scan each page that you have. The bottom right corner of the screen will indicate how many pages you scanned. The screen shown here says “Save(2)” because 2 pages were scanned.
11 When you are finished scanning all your assignment work pages, tap Save to save all the pages as one pdf file.
12 After you save, you will see an image like the one shown here. Tap the Share icon at the top of the screen.
13 The options at the bottom of the screen show where you can share/send the pdf file. Send the file to yourself by selecting the icon that corresponds to your email account. The screen here shows two email accounts, Gmail and Outlook. You can use any of your email accounts.
14 Email the file to yourself by typing your email address on the “TO” line. You should see the Scanned Document attached as a pdf file. Send the email by tapping the blue arrow in the top right corner. Note: The icon might look like this depending on what iPhone you have.
15 Open your email account on your computer. You should see the email you sent yourself and the pdf attachment of the scanned document. Click on the Scanned Document.
16 Select Download. This saves the pdf file to your computer.
Go back to your Graded Assignment window in Blackboard by clicking the . Take Test assignment tab at the very top of the computer screen. 17
18 Scroll down and click the Browse My Computer button.
19 Select Downloads from the list on the far left. Your Scanned Document should be at the top of the download list in the Name column, and the Type column should indicate that it is a PDF file. Click on Scanned Documents, then click the Open button.
20 You should see the filename Scanned Documents.pdf next to Selected Answer. Click Save and Submit.
